Sediment Consolidation Trend Offshore North Sumatra and Kodiak Island based on IODP Core Data, a Preliminary Study

Recent large magnitude earthquakes show that there is a need to better understand the incoming sediment properties of convergent margins. We compare and contrast two trends of sediment consolidation from drill sites offshore North Sumatra and Kodiak Island. These regions produced recent tsunamigenic events. Both sites show thick sediment deposit from the Bengal and Surveyor submarine fans. Even though, these two sites are in different locations, in general, both drill sites show similar trend of consolidation.
