Wide Area Monitoring System - Identification and Location of Fault using Voltage Measurement

The detection and location of fault on transmission line requires measurement from one or more terminals of the faulted line to be available and also due to non linearity associated with transmission line, the solving iterative process gets complicated and computationally demanding. This paper proposes wide area measurements (WAM's) technique used for identification and location of fault in a transmission line which uses the voltage measurement obtained from it. This technique also uses bus admittance matrix which works on the prime principle of electrical circuits. It is a single step non iterative method. The identification and location of fault is based on the change in current injected at the buses of the faulty line. Simulation studies were conducted on IEEE 14 bus system and verified the effectiveness and applicability of the proposed strategy for detection and location of fault.
