Consensus Based Secondary Supervised Tertiary Control in a Smart Grid

With the development of renewable energy and smart grids distributed generators (DGs) will be connected to power systems. As a result power systems will become much more decentralized. Various researchers have suggested that the centralized methods for solving economic dispatch for such a system is not the best option and proposed distributed control strategy by solving consensus algorithm. However, to solve the power balance constraint of economic dispatch in a distributed control strategy is a challenge. The reason being the computation of load demand needs a centralized node, as a result, the control is not fully distributed. To overcome this, the proposed work utilizes the frequency deviation signal at generator terminal as a feed forwarded signal which helps in maintaining the frequency to its nominal value while achieving the economic dispatch. The proposed controller is tested on several case studies which shows the robustness of the controller.
