Land use pattern analysis and Land Surface Temperature extraction: A case study of Kolkata

Rapid urbanization has been considered as a major issue across the globe due to its irreversible effects. One of the major effect is increase in Land Surface Temperature (LST) that acts as a contributor to global warming. LST is affected by the local Land Use (LU) of a region and surrounding environment. Several methods have been developed to extract LST from remote sensing data. This research focuses on using Radiative Transfer Equation (RTE) to extract the LST from Landsat images. Results indicate that there has been an increase in land surface temperature with changing land use pattern from 2000 to 2017. These results with understanding of other climatic parameters can help in forecasting the changes.
