Improvement of Identification Method for Melting Layer of Dual-Polarization Radar

The temperature in summer is high, and the structure of the high-altitude melting layer is relatively simple, which is easy to identify and analyze. But in winter, the temperature is lower and the cold air is more active, which leads to the change of the shape and structure of the melting layer. The melting layer observed by radar is sometimes not a circular bright band centered on the radar, but a non-circular irregular bright band covering a large area of echo, resulting in a great change in the radial space height of a radar radial. At this point, a simple circular bright band recognition method can no longer be used. With the gradual upgrading of the domestic radar to dual-polarization radar, how to apply the polarization parameters to the melting layer identification and improve the phase recognition ability of precipitation particles has become a problem to be solved. In this paper, a perfect melting layer identification algorithm is established by using the data of reflectivity factor (Z
H
), differential reflectivity factor (Z
DR
) and correlation coefficient ($\rho_{HV}$) of Hangzhou dual-polarization radar. Finally, the typical winter weather process is selected to analyze the recognition effect, and the rationality, applicability and reliability of the algorithm are verified.
