Analysis of WPR Characteristics of Two Short-time Heavy Rainfall in Penglai in 2018

Two short-time heavy rainfall processes in Penglai station in August 2018 are analyzed in this paper. The results show that: (1) The real-time wind profile obtained by the wind profile radar once every six minutes can well reflect the wind field structure, intuitively observe the low-level jet flow and wind shear phenomenon, but the half-hour and one hour average wind profiles can not reflect the fine change of the wind field; (2) 2-3 hours before the occurrence of shorttime heavy rainfall, the low-level jet appears in both precipitation processes, but not necessarily continuously; (3) The detection height of the wind profile radar increases before precipitation, and the maximum real-time detection height can reach 12km; (4) In the two processes, the signal-to-noise ratio, the vertical velocity and the spectral width exceed 35dB, 4m/s and 6m/s at bottom layer (below 1km), respectively. (5) Before the maximum rainfall, the spectral width of bottom layer is between 8-10m/s in the two processes. To sum up, it is significant to pay attention to the characteristics of wind profile radar data for the estimation and forecast of shorttime heavy rainfall.
