Static and Dynamic Characteristics Analysis of Spindle for Turning and Milling Process

A new spindle that can be used for turning and milling processes in a single machine tool is proposed to satisfy the urgent requirements of small sizes and multiple functions for small machine tools. To verify the rationality of the new proposed spindle, static analysis, modal analysis and harmonic response analysis are conducted using finite element analysis software. Then, the maximum stress and strain values of the spindle under extreme conditions are calculated, and the strength and stiffness of the proposed spindle are verified. Considering the elastic characteristics of bearing support, spring-damping modes are used to simulate the elastic support of a spindle bearing. Then natural frequencies and maximum deformation under the free vibration, the harmonic response curve under the three-direction excitation force of the spindle are obtained. The results show that the proposed spindle can satisfy the technical requirements.
