Wind Energy DC Nanogrid Dynamic Modelling and MPPT Operation

Wind energy distributed generation via residential and commercial sectors connected to DC buses are booming to be as an open energy sources. The wind energy is more utilized in residential level with the small scale of wind turbine. Therefore, wind nanogrid is presented by small variable speed wind turbine VSWT directly coupled with permanent magnet synchronous generator PMSG due to its better efficiency and higher torque to size ratio. A simple control strategy for maximum power point tracking MPPT technique on the generation side is applied on the switch mode rectifier SMR via controlling only one switch of the buck converter. The control strategy is based on tracking the optimum values of the operation on the maximum power curve with no need to measure the wind speed in the field. This was tested under wind fluctuation and different loads at different modes. Moreover, the wind nanogrid augmented by third order battery dynamic model, to extract surplus maximum power, is tested with the charging and discharging process.
