Inertial Reflex Model of Nightmare Actigraphy using Double Empirical Margins for the Blinded

Blind people tend to have more nightmares in their sleep than those with normal sight, depriving them of sound sleep when coupled with innate sleep disorders. In this paper, we propose a low-power embedded inertial actigraph unit and the associated nightmare detection algorithm, designed to be enclosed inside the white cane of a blind subject. The system, which is to be placed on the bed during sleep, attempts to detect motion patterns associated with nightmares using two distinct thresholds (reflex model). Positive detection yields in playing therapeutic music to soothe the subject and in turn aid in sound sleep.
