Design of Frame Integrated Antennas for Mobile Handset

This paper present a novel antenna design for mobile handset based on only two orthogonal cuts of 2 mm in the handset frame that creates the resonance mode of four antennas suitable for mobile connectivity. This multiport antenna structure includes two conformal MIMO-LTE triple band antennas (690-960 MHz, 1710-2710 MHz and 2400-2700 MHz), single band switching antenna for WiFi and Bluetooth (2.4GHz) and a single band GPS antenna (1.575 GHz). These antennas are evaluated in the presence of human head phantom through full wave simulation and SAR level showed to be within the acceptable range of FCC. A prototype of the optimized antenna is manufactured using CNC laser cut and bending technology. Numerical simulation results are compared to measurements in terms of S-parameters.
