A Mechanism of Simultaneous Switching Noise in Multiple Plane Conductors Using Two Dimensional Transport Theory

We study simultaneous switching noise (SSN) caused in high frequency signals propagating in the signal line, while interacting with the ground and power planes. In this paper, we elucidate the influence of the shape of the ground and power planes on SSN theoretically. We use the transport equations for the potential and current in the two-dimensional multi-layer plane circuit system starting from the Maxwell equations. We perform calculations of SSN for the cases of one and two planes with one signal line and make clear the origin of the SSN and show how to reduce SSN using the two-dimensional transport equations.
