Non-contact Sleep Disorders Detection Framework for Smart Home

A precise daily evaluation of sleep quality and sleep disorders detection at the early stages of the disease can help to prevent different health problems, attract the patient's attention to his/her health and increase motivation to follow the physicians recommendations. At present, there are no clinically verified non-contact portable methods suitable for solving these problems, contact methods require post-processing of data by a specialist of the corresponding profile. Thus, there is a need for tools for long-term home-use sleep monitoring and its quality assessment for sleep disorders prevention in healthy people, monitoring the dynamics of the disease and adjusting treatment in people with different sleep disorders. In present work, we propose a concept of non-contact sleep monitoring framework utilizing bioradar technique for smart home which will focus on detection of sleep disorders. The proposed sleep monitoring framework was experimentally tested at the Department of Hypertension (Almazov National Medical Research Center, St. Petersburg, Russia). The preliminary results showed that proposed compact bioradar system provides correlation of 0.92 between bioradar and polysomnography data, which proves that it is suitable for reliable and correct prolonged detection of sleeping human respiration pattern.
