Smart Phone Wireless Ad-Hoc Mesh Network

In this paper, we evaluate the Wi-Fi mesh network that provides mesh networking for sharing the data between two or more nodes using Wi-Fi without the internet connection, to solve the problems related to infrastructure-based networks. We use 802.11 MAC and Optimized Link State Routing (OLSR) routing protocol to realize the MANET prototype and to establish multi-hop connections between android devices radius. We realize this prototype using Android based mobiles and using Expected Transmission Count (ETX) routing metric as the congestion information. We have also used Hop count as congestion information for the comparison purpose. The paper evaluates the effectiveness of ETX and Hop count using two scenarios namely varying number of hops and varying node mobility with respect to end-to-end delay. The results reveal that ETX based OLSR protocol and 802.11 MAC protocol can be used to realize the MANET for efficient data dissemination and decision making.
