The Effect of Type of Voltage (Sinusoidal and Square Waveform) and the Frequency on the Performance of Nonlinear Field-Dependent Conductivity Coatings for Electric Field Control in Power Electronic Modules

In this paper, it is shown that nonlinear field-dependent conductivity (FDC) material as a coating layer applied to the high electric field regions in combination with two geometrical techniques known as 1) stacked substrate, and 2) protruding substrate, can result in significant electric field reduction within next-generation high voltage high power density wide bandgap power modules. The studies by using the models developed in COMSOL Multiphysics are carried out under DC, 60 Hz sinusoidal, and square waveform voltages. The influence of frequency is also studied.
