Autonomous Backup Selectivity Technique for Line-to-Ground Faults in Automated Distribution Networks

This paper introduces an advanced technique for enhancing fault detection and selectivity for automated distribution networks. The technique presents a suggestion based on the combination of Autonomous-Centralized (AUTCEN) control strategies to realize an efficient, practical, and reliable fault management procedure for discriminating the faulted zone correctly. The proposed technique is employed as a backup selectivity technique for ground faults as one of the most common occurring fault types in distribution systems. To pinpoint the faulted section, a mathematical faulted section classification technique is utilized based on the conditional probability computation. Testing and clarification examples are presented to highlight the features of the proposed technique based on the 33-bus IEEE test system.
