Assessment of special motion during standing in hemiplegic patients

Clinically, the stability of posture is measured by a stabilometer. In this study, the characteristics of posture control are evaluated with a stabilometer and an accelerometer. The accelerometer was attached to the head and lumber region while the subject stood on a stabilometer. The magnitude of stability measured by both methods was compared. In addition, the stability pattern obtained from the accelerometer was classified for two groups, one controlled by the ankle-joint, and the other controlled by the hip-joint. The magnitude of stability obtained from the accelerometer is not significantly different from that obtained by the stabilometer. From the accelerometry, the authors found that both the head and trunk acceleration signals are synchronized under the control of the ankle joint, and not controlled by the hip joint.
