A Novel small-scale heart shape monopole antenna with DGS for UWB

A new and compacted size heart shape monopole patch antenna for ultra-wideband uses is designed and simulated. The prospective monopole antenna is of dimension 21 × 16 × 1.6mm

printed on FR-4 substrate. The defected ground with four slots is designed to obtain wide bandwidth. The presented antenna achieves impedance bandwidth of 9GHz (3.1GHz-12.1GHz). The gain of antenna is improved from 2.6dBi to 3dBi by adding additional square shape and hexagonal shape in the DGS (Defected Ground structure).
