A SIW Horn Antenna Without Broad Wall Loaded With Air-Vias-Perforated in Arcuate Arrangement

A novel horn antenna loaded with air-vias and partially etched broad wall is proposed. Based on the conventional substrate integrated waveguide horn antenna, the wide metal wall of the horn is partially peeled off. Also, the substrate at the aperture is arcuate protruding and the arcuate arranged air vias in gradual size are employed to modify impedance matching. Characters of higher-than-5 dBi gain strong directivity in 17.8 GHz to 28.2 GHz are achieved after simulation and optimization in CST Microwave Studio®. The proposed structure has a promising prospect in millimeter wave applications taking advantaging of easy integration, light weight and small size.
