Conformal Slot Array Backed by Cylindrical Cavity

This paper presents a conformal slot array based on a cylindrical cavity. A coaxial-to-microstrip feed line is employed to excite the TM
₀₁₀
mode of the cylindrical cavity. Three slot elements are placed close to each other and etched out of the surface of the hollow cylinder, through which the surface current of the cylinder is disturbed by the slots for radiation. In addition, a conducting cone is utilized to increase the antenna gain as well as to achieve nearly end-fire radiation. Simulated results show that the conformal three-element slot array achieves the -10 dB impedance bandwidth from 5.48 GHz-5.92 GHz and the antenna gain of 7.8 dBi.
