Software Dependability: Classification and Categorization

Software are used in many areas which are often critical where a failure can lead to some very dangerous situations like loss of human lives, revenue etc. Systematic use of the software dependability attributes can provide a strong basis for making objective decisions design and development. It enables software professionals to make predictions about dependability attributes that are reasonably accurate and free from biased and unknown assumptions. The overall objective behind this, to develop an ability to quantitatively examine different attributes of software dependability to develop an overall better system. Software Dependability is very useful as far as planning and controlling the resources during the design and development process which leads to the development of a high-quality dependable software system. Software dependability is also very useful for developing user's confidence about software reliability. In this paper, researcher gives an overview of software dependability, introduce a generic classification of dependability attributes and discuss the nature and type of the attributes. In this review work, our endeavor is to discover the attributes for dependability and to categorize and classify them.
