Real-Time Scheduling for an Islanded Microgrid

This paper proposes a real-time energy management system for a smart microgrid with renewable energy resources. The basic components of the microgrid are a biomass generator, a geothermal generator, and several photovoltaic modules. Moreover, a battery bank is also available to store the excess generated energy or to ensure that the energy deficit is covered. The purpose of this algorithm is to determine the optimal operating points of the generators, to ensure a minimal energy waste and to save costs. The optimal scheduling strategy is based on the mixed-integer linear programming algorithm and a communication protocol interpreter implemented using an RS-485 network. Furthermore, it is considering the impact of uncertainties in solar PV, and load forecasts.
