Extended Kalman Filter Design for Model Predictive Current Controlled DFIG

Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) design for Matrix Converter (MC) controlled Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) is the main purpose of this study. MC is used as the excitation power supply for the DFIG. It has many advantages such as high efficiency, no need for high-value filters, capability of bidirectional energy conversion and no need for DC bus. There are many control algorithms that can control the MC and one of them is Model Predictive Control (MPC). Compared to conventional linear controllers, MPC requires a shorter execution time to achieve the same performance. However, the weakness of this control method is that it uses a mathematical model and affected by parameter changes due to the noise and temperature. In this study, EKF has been applied to ensure that the resistance and inductance values of DFIG are more robust to variations due to external disturbances.
