Simulation and Experiment Study on Overhead Lines Coupling Effect Under Gas Discharge

The simulation and experiment of field-to-line are of interest among researchers on high-voltage engineering and lightning study. In this study, the coupling effect of overhead line is analyzed by numerical simulation and experiment. First, a gap discharge coupling experiment system was built under laboratory conditions. The coupling current measured on the terminal of overhead line is 0.92 A. Then, the Agrawal equivalent model is established and solved by Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) method. The calculated results of terminal coupling current and voltage on overhead line are 4.26 A and 2.13 V, respectively. The current waveform yielded by numerical simulation agrees well with the measured one, indicating that the simulation model is reliable. Finally, the relationship between the coupling current at the terminal of the overhead line and load is discussed.
