Teeth Segmentation Using Gamma Adjustment and Transition Region Filter Based on Wavelet Method

Segmentation in dental panoramic images is a challenge that must be examined. The characteristics of panoramic images that have low contrast conditions cause the results of segmentation to be not optimal. The decomposition carried out so far only focuses on two directions, namely vertical and horizontal. Decomposition should be carried out in all directions in order to get the optimal end result of segmentation. This paper proposes a segmentation method based on the Wavelet Transformation method for the decomposition process and combined with Gamma Adjustments and Transition Region Filters. Gamma Adjustment is applied to images before being processed by the Wavelet method. While filtering the transition Region is done on each sub-band Wavelet image based on the dominant angle orientation. Adjusting the Gamma value in Wavelet decomposition causes an increase in image contrast. While the screening area focuses on the morphology of the tooth object. The experimental results show Error Classification (ME) of 12% and Relative Area Error (RAE) 1.4%. The proposed method shows that the Gamma value applied to the Wavelet with the filter Region process on each sub-band causes an increase in image contrast so as to provide more optimal segmentation results.
