Analytical Investigation of Morphologically Optimizing the Performance of BHJ Organic Solar Cells

Here, we investigate the performance of the organic solar cells (OSCs) through the morphology optimization. We propose a 1D analytical approach of drift-diffusion method to describe the J-V characteristics of the device considering the morphological parameters of the system. The blend with smaller phase domain size shows higher efficiency. Moreover, we illustrate that incorporating of the spherical Au nanoparticles in the BHJ photoactive layer can further improve the device performance through photon absorption enhancement. We indicate that by the morphology optimizing plus using Au nanoparticles, the efficiency of PCDTBT:PCBM based BHJ system can reach to 9.4%.
