Modeling and Performance Analysis of a Multilevel Inverter fed PMSM Open Loop Drive

The permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) have emerged as a promising alternative to Induction machines for both low-power and high-power applications due to their various advantages including better efficiency, low torque ripple, flexible operating point and lesser weight in the long term. Moreover, it has high fault tolerance, good dynamic response and low acoustic noise. In this paper, a mathematical model of the PMSM is developed using Park's transformation in MATLAB/Simulink environment and is tested for three different voltage supplies a perfectly sinusoidal supply, a sinusoidal pulse-width modulation inverter and a multi-level inverter. The performance is evaluated and a comparative analysis is done.
