The Energy Conversion Efficiency in the Trolley Travelling Drive System in Tower Cranes

The paper presents the experimental results concerning the determination of energy conversion for trolley travelling drive system applied in tower crane. The projected tower crane will be equipped in modern type permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM). In the first stage of our research, the motor with the best functional parameters for cranes application from commercially produced permanent magnet synchronous motors was selected. The selection of the right PMSM was made on the basis of simulation calculations. Next, the test bench for determination of the functional parameters of trolley travelling drive system was built. The trolley travelling drive system consists of the PMSM, gear and power supply system. The special attention was paid on the energy conversion efficiency in proposed drive system. Selected results of experimental research for trolley travelling drive are presented and discussed.
