Multi-objective Optimal Cyber-Attack Strategy in Centralized Feeder Automation System

Occurrences of cyber intrusion into intelligent electronic devices deployed for feeder automation (FA) system have been gaining more attention in smart grid. However, existing works seldom discuss how attackers optimize their attack strategy in order to implement maximum effect at minimum cost. This paper proposes a multi-objective optimal cyber-attack strategy in a centralized FA system. Two objectives that maximizing the expected damage risk and minimizing the probability of being caught or detected are established under fully automatic FA operation constraint. Regarding some important items relevant to probability in the proposed attack strategy, the corresponding derivations and calculations are discussed elaborately. Moreover, the relationship between the organized cyber-attack behavior and the fault-tolerant FA action is further analyzed. An enhanced multi-objective particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm is applied to obtain the Pareto optimal solutions of this problem. The modified IEEE 33-bus distribution system is provided to demonstrate the validity and effectiveness of proposed cyber-attack strategy.
