Investigating the Influence of Storage on Renewable Energy Capacity Credit

Renewable energy capacity credit represents the load carrying ability of renewable energy resource, and it is one of the foundations for power system adequacy analysis under high renewable energy penetration. Energy storage in the power system has the ability to balance the demand and generation instantaneously and improve the load carrying ability of renewable energy. In the capacity credit evaluation, the influence of storage should be considered. This paper evaluates the influence of storage installation on renewable energy capacity credit. Simulations are conducted on IEEE RTS-79 standard test system, and the results are analyzed and explained by existing theories. Characteristics of renewable energy capacity credit with storage installation are summarized based on numerical studies.
