PARATA: A Routing Strategy in VANET for CO2 Emissions Reduction

Vehicular networks represent an important research filed in the scientific community. The interest in this topic is confirmed also from the many works in literature. The focus of this paper is to optimize the traffic flowing in a vehicular environment with vehicle-2-roadside capability in order to resolve congestion and emission issues. The proposed idea is based on the better management of road-side units, that collect road information and then have the ability of changing traffic flows in order to exploit less congested roads. This management allows a system optimization, also in terms of Carbon Dioxide emissions reduction. We propose an algorithm able to perform re-routing and then reduce car CO2 emission. We show our simulative campaigns in order to prove the goodness of the proposal.
