Challenges with Developing Antimicrobial Bio-materials by Combining Liquid Wood and Silver Nanoparticles

This article aims to study the development of new materials with superior mechanical properties using a combination between a biodegradable material such as liquid wood and silver nanoparticles through Physical Vapor Deposition process. An alternative to plastic products made from petroleum is a thermoplastic material built using byproducts of the wood pulp industry. Silver nanoparticles are known to provide antimicrobial properties for surfaces. The main goal is to create a benchmark of materials which can be further exploited in a wide variety of applications in areas such as: medical, dental, bio-engineering and others.
