A Microstrip Leaky Wave Antenna For Frequency Sensitivity Enhancement With Flat Gain

In this paper, we proposed a microstrip leaky wave antenna (MLWA) based on the composite right/left-handed structure for the frequency sensitivity enhancement with a flat gain. Different from the conventional ones, the microstrip meander lines are introduced to increase the slope of effective phase constant versus frequency of LWAs and, hence, the beam scanning range. Finally, the antenna prototype with 16 unit cells exhibits the simulated beam scanning angle of -46° to 48° over the frequency range from 10.3 to 11.5 GHz with a gain variation of less than 2.0 dBi.
