EBG-based Dielectric Image Guide For 5G Applications

In this paper, electromagnetic bandgap (EBG) structures are studied and used in the design of a broadband transmission medium for 5G applications. Combined with the dielectric image guide, mushroom-like EBG units are aligned along the guiding channel to suppress side leakages and avoid the coupling effect from other integrated components. At the same time, a tapered CPW to SIW transition structure is used as the mode launcher to achieve a broadband and smooth mode conversion. Simulation results show that this new proposed waveguide efficiently works in the targeted frequency range.
