A Study on Gain Enhancement of a Leaf-Shaped Bowtie Slot Antenna Array Employing Dielectric Superstrates

This paper presents a study on gain enhancement of a planar-type wideband linear array antenna through the use of dielectric superstrates with high dielectric constant. For the case where two-layered dielectric superstrates are placed above a leaf-shaped bowtie slot linear antenna array in E-plane, antenna characteristics are evaluated by the finite-difference time domain (FDTD) analysis. From the simulated results, it is confirmed that the gain is increased by around 4 dB in comparison with the case for the antenna array only, and that narrow-beam pattern is obtained in H-plane.
