Compact UWB Microstrip Antenna with 3.5/5.5-GHz Dual Band-Notched Characteristics

A novel coplanar waveguide (CPW)-fed compact ultra-wideband (UWB) antenna with dual band-notched characteristics is presented in this paper. The antenna consists of a trophy-shaped monopole radiator and a slotted ground plane extended toward two sides of the monopole radiator. By adding a pair of quarter-wavelength parasite branches at the top part of the ground, and etching a screw-shaped meandering slot into the junction of the feed line and the radiating patch, the dual band-notched characteristics centered at 3.5 GHz and 5.5 GHz are achieved, respectively. The proposed antenna has a compact size of 25 × 28 mm with stable omnidirectional radiation patterns in the working bands, and operates in 2.63-11.3 GHz, which is a promising candidate for UWB applications.
