Design of Broadband Dual-polarized Array Based on Three-Dimensional SIW Feeding for 5G Millimeter-Wave Applications

A wideband dual-polarized array based on three-dimensional (3-D) substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) is proposed for 5G millimeter-wave (MMW) applications. The array consists of printed log-periodic dipole arrays (PLPDA) as the radiating element and a 3-D SIW structure as the feeding network. Based on 3-D topology, the SIW network is composed of two vertical and one horizontal feeding networks, realizing the flexible energy spatial transfer and dual-polarized radiation. Simulated results indicate that the impedance bandwidth is great than 37% (22-32GHz). In addition, an average gain of 10.1 dBi and 10 dBi are obtained with high port isolation for both ports. Meanwhile, stable radiation patterns with low cross-polarization throughout the operating band is also achieved. Wide operating band, high gain performance and high port isolation make the proposed array attracting in MMW applications.
