Research on Phased Array Detection Technology of Inserted fillet weld

Influences of irregular welding area and curvature change of ultrasonic reflection position in insertion fillet weld make it impossible to distinguish defect wave from internal reflection wave effectively in conventional ultrasonic testing, which leads to missed detection and inaccurate location of defects. Ultrasound phased array can control the focus and deflection of sound beam by controlling the excitation time of each piezoelectric chip in phased array, so as to improve the detection efficiency and accuracy. The parameters of probe and scanning method of phased array are determined by simulation in this paper, and an ultrasonic phased array detection system with scanning device is set up to detect the embedded defects in the insertion fillet weld.. The test results verify the efficiency and accuracy of the ultrasonic phased array detection for such welds, which provides an effective method for defect detection of inserted fillet weld.
