A Comprehensive Study and Prediction of Flashover Voltage of 11kV Bushing with Various Pollutions using Support Vector Machine

In transmission and distribution, the reliability of the power system is affected by many reasons. Among them, the pollution flashovers, occurring on high voltage bushings are main reasons. When they are exposed to various environmental conditions, the pollution deposited on the surface of the bushing may be non-uniformly. This deposited pollution may affect surface flashover voltage and leakage current greatly which degrades the insulation properties of bushing and affects their electrical characteristics. In this proposed work, the performance of bushing with non-uniform pollution was studied. According to IEC 60507, artificial pollution method was done to conduct laboratory based pollution performance test on bushings. The NaCl salt and kaolin mixture in different ratio with three equal intervals was coated by using brushing method. The levels of SDD and NSDD are noted for both normal bushing and RTV coated bushing of 11kV air and oil bushings. The results shows that the flashover voltage gets reduced when the T/B ratio increases and the performance of RTV coated bushing has better results.
