Five-Level and Seven-Level DCMI fed to IPMSM

This paper presents the simulation analysis of five-level and seven-level diode clamped multilevel inverter used for high power applications. A simple modulation technique similar to Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation (SVPWM) is proposed Carrier Based SVPWM (CBSVPWM), that can be designed with less complexity. The drive used is Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (IPMSM), which can be used in applications like Electric Traction and Hybrid Electric Vehicles. The drive is controlled by a vector control method called Field Oriented Control (FOC) for closed-loop operation. Speed-torque characteristics with different load variations are studied with five-level and seven-level inverters fed to IPMSM drive. Voltage and current THD is also analyzed for better high power application of the inverters.
