Design of an integrated DC-DC converter for energy harvesting applications

This paper presents a multisource DC-DC boost converter for energy harvesting from thermoelectric and photovoltaic transducers. It uses a voltage supervisor in order to have the ability to simultaneously draw energy from sources independently of their output voltages. Furthermore, a novel approach of common PWM ZCS circuit is presented. The output voltage is greater than 1.8 V with a load of 2 kΩ and the peak power efficiency is close to 77% with 100 mV input voltage and irradiance from 3-W/m
²
to 40-W/m
²
. It has been implemented in AMS 0.35 μm CMOS process with a 0.082 mm
²
die area.
