Video on the Internet is a little like early wax phonograph cylinders. It is still a marvel that it works at all, and we accept lower quality for the trade-off of having it delivered on our desks when we want it. Peter Alesso, author of e-Video, Producing Internet Video as Broadband Technologies Converge and president of Video Software Laboratory, says it will be years before Internet video becomes a viable big business for a general consumer audience. However, he believes that this development is not only technically possible, but inevitable.
