A High Reliable Communication Solution for Transmission Line Protection

Line protection is very important in power transmission system of the coming smart grid. In this paper, a new communication reliability evaluation model for electric transmission line protection is proposed, which aims to minimize the outage duration of communication network. According to the model, a new method for improving the reliability of communication is introduced. A high reliable communication solution for transmission line protection is presented, and it is widely used in China southern power grid (CSG). Simulation results show the reliability of the proposed communication solution is much better.
