The Influences of Sensory Effects on Car Interior Designs

This study focused on car interior designs and adopted the Kansei engineering method to explore the influences of multisensory and monosensory (visual, tactile, and auditory) experiences on driver perceptions. The results of the single sensory experiments revealed the following: (1) in the visual sensory experiment, the touch screen was considered to project a dynamic and technological image, whereas the wooden glove box and trim were considered to project an sense of leisure; (2) in the tactile sensory experiment, the leather mesh steering wheel, metal center console, and leather seats were considered to project dynamic, technological, and leisure perceptions, respectively; and (3) in the auditory sensory experiment, the sounds of the automatically adjusting seat and seatbelt warning were considered to project dynamic and technological perceptions, and the sound generated from the sunroof opening and closing was considered to project an sense of leisure.
