EEG Controlled Bionic Arm

This paper presents a bionic arm designed using 3D modelling software and fabricated using 3D printing technology with poly lactic acid polymer as raw material. The arm is mechanised using artificial tendons which are actuated by smart servo dynamixel AX-12A motors. The arm is provided with five fingers, a wrist and elbow joint, along with individual servo motors for controlling each one of them separately, resulting in seven degrees of freedom which helps in establishing unique gripping patterns. The arm is controlled using a microcontroller with information for control provided by the user's neural activities in the brain. This information is acquired with the help of Neurosky MindWave Mobile which is incorporated with electroencephalogram sensors.
