Combined IIR and FIR Filter for Improved Power Quality of PV Interfaced Utility Grid

For the purpose of enhancing power quality, an infinite impulse response (IIR) combined with finite impulse response (FIR) control is utilized for the solar PV array combined with the utility grid in a distribution network. Moreover, for maximum utilization of the solar PV power by determining the maximum power point (MPP), an improved perturb and observe (P&O) with adaptive technique is employed, which improves the performance. The voltage source converter (VSC) performs the primary tasks of alleviating harmonics and providing reactive power as a distribution static compensator (DSTATCOM). With the usage of this control technique, the grid current total harmonic distortion (THD) is observed to be within the IEEE-519 standard and a laboratory prototype validates the performance during weak grid conditions.
