Cross connect architectures: a new solution based on a passive wavelength router and wavelength converters

We propose a new architecture for optical cross-connects, stressing both its highlights, including low crosstalk and fast switching time, and drawbacks, mainly the high number of wavelength converters that require technological and engineering improvements to make it a reliable and cost effective solution.
