Interference Aided Energy Harvesting Employing Power Splitting Protocol under the Best Relay Selection Scheme

Radio frequency signals are abundant in nature. Energy constrained devices can harvest energy from these radio frequency signals and can perform information processing and transmission simultaneously. In this study, interference-aided a cooperative relaying scheme (termed as IA-EH-CRS) is proposed, where multiple energy-constrained devices acting as decode-and-forward relays harvest energy from the source and co-channel interference signals simultaneously by exploiting power-splitting protocol. Two different best relay selection schemes are investigated insightfully. In the first scheme, the relay node having the maximum harvested energy, whereas in the second scheme, the relay node having the maximum received signal-to-interference plus noise ratio, at the current block of time slot acts as a best relay to forward the source information to the destination. The average sum data rate and energy efficiency of the proposed protocol is investigated. Through the computer simulation, the effectiveness of IA-EH-CRS is demonstrated insightfully. It is shown that the proposed scheme shows an improved performance as compared to the single-relay aided energy harvesting protocol.
