An Epsilon Negative Line Based Dual-Band Metamaterial Inspired Antenna for Low-Profile Applications

In this paper, a dual band open-ended metamaterial (MTM) inspired antenna with virtual ground plane is proposed. Zeroth-order resonance (ZOR) and first order resonance (FOR) is originated by means of epsilon negative transmission line. It is designed on a via less coplanar waveguide (CPW) single layer. The presented metamaterial (MTM) antenna shows dual-band characteristics with ZOR at 1.31 GHz and FOR at 2.78 GHz corresponding to 40 MHz and 120 MHz, -10 dB bandwidth respectively. = 1.31 GHz. This antenna is showing bipolar radiation pattern in yz- plane whereas monopolar-type radiation pattern in xz- plane. This antenna exhibits radiation efficiencies of 67.07% and 81.43% at first and second band respectively. This antenna has satisfactory radiation characteristics which makes it suitable candidate for radiolocation and satellite applications.
