GUI Static Testing for Object-Oriented Programming Exercises

Many students learn introductory Java programming. Although GUI programming exercises are performed to master object-oriented programming, GUI scoring is very time-consuming to check the layout of the drawn application. GUI automatic test methods require special environments, skills and time to create. We propose a new method that can easily create a program for scoring by using XML files as well as automating layout scoring work. The method is used to score actual student programs of exercises in our university course. The evaluation results shows that the preparation time of the program for automatic scoring shortened and the accuracy of automatic scoring is the same as that of manual scoring.
