Redundancy of NPP’s Own Needs Using Hydrogen Energy Complex

The proposed concept for multifunctional redundancy of own power needs at a nuclear power plant involves the use of an additional steam-turbine generator and hydrogen-oxygen superheater. This approach allows increased power and maneuverability for nuclear power plants with water-cooled reactors while maintaining high levels of safety and reliability. It also provides increased installed capacity utilization (load factor) due to the production of hydrogen fuel at night when electrical loads in the power system are at a minimum. Calculations show that the proposed scheme of redundancy involving an additional turbine and hydrogen technologies reduces the intensity of reactor-core damage to 9.8·10

. This approach allows the two reactors to cooldown within 72 hours in case of a blackout and depressurization of the primary circuit at one of the reactors. The most significant results of the implementation of this concept of multifunctional redundancy would be positive economic effects and payback of additional capital investments, ultimately increasing the technical and economic efficiency, safety, and competitiveness of nuclear power plants.
